Bond

Taking a break from picking apart the computers in the Lab, Q was currently home alone- Bored. Bored was never a good thing for the boffin to be, it tended to get him in trouble, and he was currently making a mess in the bedroom, clothes all over the floor from where he'd been digging in the closet for the few tools he'd scavenged over the past few months. Between the piles of clothes were several deconstructed phones he'd found on the beach, all in various states of disrepair. ...And, of course, right in the center of the chaos sat Q himself.

He knew Bond wouldn't be impressed by the mess (Harry seemed less likely to mind), but that, on some level, was part of what he was up to. He was bored and irritating Bond was one way to entertain himself.

"Bored," Q replied simply, not even looking up from the phone he was currently picking apart.

"How can you be bored? It looks like a hurricane hit in here," he said.

"It's boring, I've messed with this all before. I achieved nothing then and I've achieved nothing now. It's dull, tedious, pointless, but I've little else to do, so here I am. ...Bored," Q muttered.

"You need a new hobby," he said flatly, then began to pick up the clothes.

Q muttered something under his breath, then discarded the phones. He made no effort to help tidy though, instead he simply ignored the mess and crawled into bed.

Bond picked up what he could. The rest he pushed to the side so it wasn't a pile in the middle of the floor.

Then he came to the edge of the bed and stood over Q.

"You're in a mood," he noted.

Q considered that, then nodded, still making no move to help as he watched Bond.

"I am," he agreed, looking up at James. "I suppose when they've struck me in the past I've been alone."

Bond stopped tidying up and moved to sit with Q on the bed.

"What sort of mood is it?" he asked, not terribly adept at dealing with others' emotions. In the past he had simply walked away from anything that made him uncomfortable.

Q seemed slightly less petulant when they were eye to eye, but he only shrugged. "Just a mood," he replied, shrugging slightly. "Bored, stilted, anxious... Just a general sense of discontent."

"You shouldn't just sit in bed and wallow in it," he said thoughtfully. "Come with me. I have an idea."

Quirking a brow, Q hesitated a beat, then shrugged.

"Alright," he agreed.

Bond reached out his hand to take Q's, determined to pull him away from the chaos of this 'mood'.

Q quite liked the chaos, honestly. He'd created it with the intention of getting lost in it, and maybe upsetting James with it. Still, he was curious to see what Bond thought would help, and allowed himself to be led away.

Bond took him past the cats who were sleeping on the sofa and out the door.

"Thank God we're out of that mess," he said. "You'll have to clean it up when we get back. I can't live like that."

"I like a bit of chaos," Q huffed. "I don't see why everything has to be neat and orderly all the time."

"Not everything. Just home," Bond replied. "If you'd ever chased down a terrorist in Uganda and blew up an embassy, then had to flee for your life, I think you'd appreciate some peace and order at home."

He flashed a smile at Q.

"Perspective."

Q was still sulking, but he didn't argue as he followed along.

Bond lead him to the dome and into the kitchen. On the counter were bottles of wine. Old bottles, and dirty.

"I went out to the ship," he said. "It's a tall ship, but the riggings are rotten. I got on board and found these. Care to see if it's turned to vinegar with me?"

"...Oh, right," Q said, looking at the booze and then glancing at Bond. "You indulge, I'll make some tea."

It wasn't that Q didn't drink, he did, he just wasn't as keen on it as Bond, and old sunken ship wine didn't really appeal.

"Where's your spirit of adventure? Maybe we should venture to the ship together. That would certainly alleviate your boredom," he said as he started looking for a corkscrew.

Q sighed, shaking his head.

"I'm not you, Bond. I need different things."

"I'll concede to that. I have no idea what you find fun about circuits and sudoku," he said.

[cuppa_q]

"And I don't expect you to," Q assured him. "I appreciate your interest in cheering me up, it's very kind."

[0_0_7]

"I don't like seeing you down, Q," Bond said. He paused. "I know you're dreadfully bored here. You could use some excitement."

"I could," Q agreed quietly. "At home when things got dull or I hit a brick wall, there were certain clubs I'd go to or people I'd call, but I'm a bit shut off here. I'm learning to adapt though."
